South African RS / non-RS media sources

[edit]

If anyone is familiar with the reliability of South African media sources their assistance would be very welcome here [1].

The ex-politician subject of a WP:BLP has requested the removal of some material via a WP:COI edit request. The material has two sources ('IOL News' and 'Sowetan', references 15 and 16 in the main article). According to Wikipedia info on 'Reliable South African Sources' [2] the former source is described as 'Usable but be cautious', the latter source is not mentioned.

I'm wary of removing sourced material unless the sources can be categorised as unreliable. Given the subject's status as an ex-politician there may also be some degree of bias in the coverage, but I'm unable to assess whether that is likely to be the case here.

Please note: the thread at the article talk page is rather long and there is probably no need to read it in its entirety. By the end it boils down to the simple question of whether the quality of the sourcing in refs 15 & 16 justifies the inclusion of the relevant material in the article. Any input would be most appreciated. Axad12 (talk) 12:15, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

RfC on Sources and Mahatma Gandhi's last hunger stike

Feedback on what the reliable sources allow us to say in an NPOV fashion about the goals and motivations of Mahatma Gandhi's last hunger strike is requested at: Talk:Mahatma Gandhi RfC on Mahatma Gandhi's last hunger strike Fowler&fowler«Talk» 14:41, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Women in Green's October 2024 edit-a-thon

[edit]

Hello WikiProject South Africa:

WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in October 2024!

Running from October 1 to 31, 2024, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Around the World in 31 Days! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 countries (or broader international articles) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.

We hope to see you there!

Romansbaai and Hydra Bay

[edit]

Can someone check if Hydra Bay and ceb:Romansbaai are the same thing? Both list the opposite name as an alternative name, but their coordinates are listed as different places on Wikidata. If this is a single bay, what are the correct coordinates? Batrachoseps (talk) 15:19, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like the previous map on Hydra Bay was wrong, and the Wikidata coordinates have been corrected, and the two articles have been linked on Wikidata. Batrachoseps (talk) 18:34, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nice to see that the correction was done. After I saw your message here, I went to check the Wikidata Item for both pages and found them the same. I guess somebody quickly made the correction after reading your message. Google Maps has indeed convinced me that they are the same place. Maintenance templates

[edit]

Good Day I hope you're doing well. I'm currently working on improving the article (Thembu Kingdom) and noticed that a maintenance template has been added. I've reviewed the issues raised by the template and have made the necessary improvements. However, I’m unsure if the template can now be safely removed.

Would you be able to review the page and confirm whether the issues have been resolved, and if so, assist with removing the template?

Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

Best regards, Getrude89 (talk) 23:47, 16 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
